Top tips to take care of your wigs

Other people should not come to know if one is wearing a wig. Onlookers will not notice a wig on your head if good care is taken in the retrospection. Hair wigs especially human hair wigs are an investment that requires a high level of attention and care just like your natural hair. This means the wigs look, sound, and behave just like real hair. Hence, one will have to put in some time and effort to keep your wig looking beautiful and full of life.

When it comes to wig maintenance, there are a few dos and don’ts to remember:

Before wash:

Comb away any tangles from the human or synthetic hair wig with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb before washing it. It is advisable to start at the tips of your hair and working further your way up to the base of the cap.

Washing wig:

To clean the hair wig, first, take it under the running water. You could wet it under the shower or the faucet in the bathtub. This prevents hair from being trapped in a sink or basin. Take a tiny amount of shampoo in your hand and keep adding it gradually to your wig. Apply the shampoo from top to bottom. Please note that twisting, rubbing, or massaging the wig can cause the hair to tangle or split. Finally, rinse the shampoo out with clean and cold running water. After rinsing the shampoo out of the wig, gently squeeze the hair to remove any excess water. Avoid rubbing or wringing the wig out when doing so. To clear any excess sweat, gently blot your hair wig with a towel.

Condition your wig:

Spread a small amount of conditioner into the palms of your hands and gently work it into the hair while your wig is still wet. Make sure it’s uniformly spread in the wig to condition the entire length. While doing so, avoid adding conditioner to the wig’s base because it will loosen the knots on the cap, causing the wig to lose hair. It is recommended to leave the conditioner for at least 5 minutes. Detangle your wig gently when it’s still damp and saturated with conditioner. Start at the tip and working your way up. Gently comb and detangle the hair with a wide-tooth comb or your fingertips. However, avoid stretching the hair as this can cause harm to your wig. Once the wig is detangled, clean it thoroughly with cool running water to remove the conditioner.

Drying wig:

Once the conditioning is complete, gently squeeze any excess water out of the wig. Please do not wring. Lightly blot hair with a towel once more. You can add shine, moisture, and safety to the hair by applying a small amount of hair serum or oil to the wig.

Styling wig:

Finally, use heated styling equipment such as curling irons, flat irons, and hair dryers after the wig has dried. Use styling products sparingly.
Keep your wigs away from direct sunlight. Always store your wigs on a wig stand to avoid stretching and losing their shape. Enjoy the new look with your well-kept wigs.
